Analogue Film Wedding Photography in Nottingham & the UK

Timeless storytelling, captured on 35mm film

There’s something about analogue photography that just feels different. Slower. Softer. More intentional. It’s not just a nostalgic nod — it’s a deliberate way of seeing and documenting your day with clarity, feeling, and a bit of grainy goodness.

I offer 35mm film photography as part of my wedding coverage — captured alongside digital images — to bring you a curated mix of timeless, honest frames that hold real feeling.

Why Choose Film Wedding Photography

Slow, soulful, and beautifully imperfect

Film photography brings a different energy to your wedding day. It slows things down. Every frame is intentional — there’s no clicking hundreds of images per second. Instead, it’s about observation, instinct, and capturing those fleeting, meaningful in-between moments.

With film, there’s a richness that’s hard to replicate — the way light melts into each frame, the texture of real grain, and colours that feel soft, true, and full of emotion. It doesn’t chase trends; it captures time exactly as it was.

My Approach as a Film Wedding Photographer

Documentary-led with a fine art foundation

My style blends guided documentary photography with a quiet editorial feel — whether I’m shooting digital or film, the intention is the same: to create images that feel like you. Candid, artful, and quietly powerful.

My background is in Fine Art Photography, where I first fell in love with analogue. Back in 2010, you’d find me in the university darkrooms developing my own negatives and making prints. I trained under the late John Blakemore, diving deep into the works of photographers like Sally Mann, William Eggleston and Saul Leiter. These roots still shape the way I shoot — driven by composition, light, and instinct.

Now, I partner with professional film labs to process and scan each roll with care, so every image you receive is beautifully developed and ready to be part of your story.

What’s Included in My Film Photography

Thoughtfully captured — never rushed

  • Available as an add-on to your wedding photography package
  • Options for colour and/or black and white film
  • Developed and scanned by trusted UK-based labs
  • Film images are uploaded to your gallery, delivered alongside your digital images for a complete collection

Film is unpredictable in the best way — it responds to light, texture, and timing. That’s part of the beauty. While it’s not suited to every fast-paced moment, it sings in those slower, atmospheric parts of the day — morning prep, golden hour portraits, and those quiet in-between spaces where the real feeling lives.

FAQ – Film Photography

How much of the day is shot on film?
Each roll of 35mm film includes 36 exposures. Because of the natural unpredictability of film — things like light shifts or lab imperfections — not every frame will always be usable. Essential fast-paced events (such as group shots and the ceremony) are typically captured digitally to ensure nothing important is missed.

What moments work best on film?
Film works best when we can create space — soft light, slower moments, relaxed portraits, direct flash on the dance floor, and for an editorial vibe. It brings such a soulful quality to prep, details, and couple photos. Fast-paced action is better suited to digital, which is why the hybrid approach really shines.

When will we receive the scans?
Once the film is processed and scanned by the lab, I’ll add them to your final gallery — usually around 8-10 weeks after the wedding. Timing can vary slightly depending on the number of weddings I’ve shot close together, as sometimes I shoot across multiple events to make the most of each roll.

What if the film doesn’t come out?
This is rare — film photography is tried and tested, and I take great care with how I shoot. My film cameras are professionally serviced, and I always shoot with backups and trusted labs. It’s a reliable process, just with an added sense of unpredictability.

Who owns the copyright to our images?
I retain copyright, but you’re granted a full personal license to download, print, and share your photos however you like. If privacy is a concern, we can always talk about additional options.

Can we choose colour or black & white?
Absolutely. I’ll chat with you before the wedding about your preferences. Some couples opt for all colour, others prefer a 50/50 split. We’ll shape it to fit your vibe.
