Woodborough Hall Wedding – James and Ed’s Summer Garden Party

Finding the right way to celebrate your love is a deeply personal journey. When James and Ed first reached out to me, they described a vision that was perfectly “them”: a relaxed, stylish, Wimbledon-themed Woodborough Hall wedding that felt more like a grand garden party. It is always an honour to document LGBTQIA+ love stories, and James and Ed’s day was a perfect example of why I love being a wedding photographer. As a professional, I believe in love for all and pride myself on being an inclusive ally for the whole community.

Getting Ready Together at Woodborough Hall

The day began with a refreshing change of pace. Instead of the usual separate morning nerves, the grooms chose to get ready together. There was such a stunning sense of calm as they helped each other with their blazers and chinos. Since they were aiming for a “Wimbledon-style” dress code, the atmosphere was breezy and sophisticated. It was also a momentous week for them, as they celebrated their 10-year anniversary just days before the wedding!

A Personal Humanist Ceremony with Kickass Gatherings

Because the couple had already completed their legal paperwork, they were free to create a totally unique ceremony. They brought in the incredible Louise from Kickass Gatherings, who is a total expert at making sure ceremonies are “enjoyed, not endured.”

Louise wove their decade-long love story into a script that was both heartfelt and hilarious. The grooms entered to the iconic sounds of Nina Simone’s Feeling Good, setting a joyful tone from the very first second. The ceremony was packed with personality, including:

  • A guest sing-along to Islands in the Stream
  • Interactive “guest voting” questions about their relationship.
  • A secret personal vow exchange
  • The sharing of a Quaich – a traditional Scottish cup representing friendship and trust.

Tennis Themes and an Inclusive Woodborough Hall Wedding

To keep the “Wimbledon” vibe alive, the confetti moment had a brilliant twist. Guests were given both traditional petals and ping-pong balls to throw as the husbands walked down the aisle! It was such a fun, visual way to celebrate their interests and made for some truly unique photos.

The afternoon transitioned into a BBQ on the lawns. While guests enjoyed Pimms and G&Ts, others took to the grass for rounds of croquet. The floral arrangements by Fern Floral Design complemented the country house setting beautifully, adding to that relaxed, high-end garden party feel.

As the sun began to set over Woodborough Hall, the evening kicked off with speeches and a high-energy set from Hatchland Band. It was a day that perfectly balanced the elegance of a country house with the warmth of a family BBQ. James and Ed, thank you for letting me capture such a wonderful milestone in your ten years together x
